Yuzu Madeleines amidst P1 registration

The Primary One registration has started and it inevitably caused stress to this mom. Within me, I was grappling with the fact that my girl will no longer be a preschooler in a few months’ time but was just a toddler a while back?

Then there is the constant battle between homeschooling her and having her attend formal school. Oh, the struggles!

So I was thrust into pensive mode yesterday and decided to do something that could lift my spirit, without fail – baking. I’ve stopped baking after the boy was born. Yes, I do still use the oven or the standmixer once in a while but that’s out of necessity; I’ve mouths to feed. The desire to bake for pleasure has been curbed because it’s just too much work having to look after two active young kids and bake, and having to do the washing up thereafter.

The other day, when we were shopping at Isetan Scotts, I found myself heading towards the supermarket and then, without my knowing, I was at the baking supplies section. Grabbed some baking petals and Yuzu peel and told myself I would bake.

So I did bake. Because baking is therapeutic to me. This time round, I roped in the girl to help and as she went through the different steps in baking the madeleines, I realised that her skills have improved. 她长大了。

And so, I’ve been a mom for six years and a SAHM for the same number of years. I guess things will change a bit as she goes into Primary School?

Meanwhile, we would be monitoring the number of vacancies left in the school we intend to send the girl to and pray that no matter which school she would be sent to, she would thrive and continue to love learning.
