I’m loving it because I don’t have to tie my hair and feeling like a brick is weighing down on me. 😝
Hope your week has been great!
I’m penning this down because it means a fair bit to me.
I completed a 10km with Shape Run this morning and I felt so good after that. The legs and heart were strong at the finishing line and I was choked with emotions. It’s been so long since I ran a 10km. Before the kids came along, running a 10km happened almost every Saturday. In a week, I would at least clock in 25km. Since having kids, it has been tough getting out to work those muscles. So when I was able to do that today, together with so many awesome ladies, I was filled with pure joy.
It has been a struggle to exercise, to run, when the kids were young. We do not have a helper and if I really need to take time off for a ME time or exercise, I would need to make arrangement. Running is thus possible only during the weekends, when the hubs is around to watch over the kids. We are blessed with a jogging stroller and it has been really helpful but it just feels different running on your own as compared to running with children. ;p
I am thankful for the folks at Active Hive who keep encouraging me to work on the machines whenever I can. It has really prepared me for the 10km run today because the longest distance that I have run on normal days was 7km. I believe my body and heart would complain a lot if I haven’t been doing resistance training at Active Hive.
I’m thankful for the opportunity to run this race and I’m reminded to continue to lead a healthy lifestyle so that I am well enough to take care of the family. And this extends to the food I take in too. I’m not getting any younger and I do find that my metabolism drops recently. Quality food is needed and I am in the midst of changing my diet to a more wholesome one. Less sugar, more greens and superfoods is the way to go!
Incorporating quinoa into my diet. Oh yes, Active Hive is having a 30% off (till 31 August) for their chia seeds and quinoa. If you are interested, hop over to their online shop!
10km is a good distance to run and I’m already thinking of participating in the next 10km race! I’m really hoping that I could have more opportunity to run outdoors, to clock in the mileage, just like pre-kids’ days.
Would it be possible?
So May has entered our lives. How did your Labour Day go? I was filled with thankfulness as I wrote this post. Today was great. The hubs was around and there wasn’t any schedule to adhere to. No enrichment classes, no other obligations to attend to. It’s a day of rest and fun.
I have always wanted to have a picnic by the beach and was only too glad that the hubs suggested it and invited our CG and friends along.
If it’s just us, we would normally play the frisbee and kicked a ball or two. But because we had friends joining us, our version of a Beach day expanded to…
involve sand play. So the girl…and the boy were elated to be allowed to play because the mom had closed both eyes. You can imagine their joy.
The boy who, on several occasions, displayed fear of sand, now enjoyed it tremendously. Such a wonderful sight to behold.
Whenever there are moms, you will not lack food. Okay, I must qualify that I brought nothing to the picnic except for a few cans of cold drinks. These two moms especially the one in the middle, prepared so much homecooked food that it doesn’t make sense for me to bring more. This is an awful excuse, of course. But anyway, one thing’s for sure – we are immensely blessed.
See how my kids have benefitted from the kind gestures of the other moms?
The girl had her first real encounter with kite-flying. She was thrilled, especially when she saw her kite soaring in the sky.
See those smiles on the girls’ faces? Priceless.
It’s a wonderful first day of May and it has started well. May we be rid of sickness and tantrums (haha) and be filled with the presence of God and joy each day.
[Review + discount code]
About two more weeks to go before school reopens. Have you bought the school supplies and label them?
By labelling, I mean with your child’s name. And I consider quality as the main thing I would look for in choosing a label.
Thus far, I have used two brands and love both because of their quality and design. Unfortunately, the first brand has been discontinued but thankfully, the second one is still around.
Stickerkid has been around since 2004 and all their products are made in Switzerland. They only use the highest quality materials for their labels and each of them is protected with a thin plastic layer to ensure that their products withstand any challenge that come their way.
Prior to their invitation to review their labels (was given a test package), I have already been using them for a year and can attest that their labels last. The thin plastic layer that I mentioned earlier does protect the label and it doesn’t come off, unlike some of the labels which I have come across.
Another thing which I like about Stickerkid’s labels is our ability to customise the design, like many other labels out there. We can choose the colour of the sticker, the font size, type and colour and the cute logo that goes onto the label. Oh yes, you can also add in the chinese characters, if you want.
I thought these labels are good and practical as Christmas gifts to the kids. I mean, they will certainly come in useful when school reopens eh? These labels are dispatched in 24 hours once purchased. They will be in time for Christmas as gifts!
Besides stickers, they also have removable and permanent iron-on labels for clothes. They really have a good range of labels. Do check it out!

1st day | Chesterfield Farm
Our flight was at 1.20am. Not a very ideal timing I must say. I was worried that the girl would be cranky with lack of sleep. Thankfully she slept a few hours before we headed to the airport and slept on the plane for a good few hours. As anticipated, she got bored along the way and I had to take out the Usborne sticker book and get her to work on it. The book is on airport and I chose it so that she could connect her experience with the task at hand.
We cleared the custom at Melbourne airport rather quickly and by the time we settled some stuff, it was past noon. Chesterfield Farm was on my itinerary and we only realised that it closes at 3pm then. We wasted no time and Pauline, my host, sent me to the farm. This farm was recommended by Jenn and boy, was I glad that I chose to visit it.
This is the sight that greeted us when we arrived and to be honest, I wasn’t impressed. However, once you go in through the cafe cum ticketing counter, you will realise that the farm is big!
Map of the farm
There is a list of things to do on the farm -tractor rides, shearing of sheep, milking of cow, feeding of the animals, etc – and one could devote a few hours visiting it. There are specific timings of course so it would be good to read up a little on its website. Faith and I had only one hour in the farm but we were really thrilled by the farm animals.
Pigs and piglets
The girl was truly fascinated by the kangaroo. The mom too!
This space is truly big, quite different from Collingwood Children’s Farm and it has a bigger range of farm animals, much to our delight. Because we had only one hour before the farm closed for the day, we had to literally race through the various sections. We didn’t even purchase any feed for the animals; I thought it would be a good experience for the kiddo. I think one could possibly spend a good 2 to 3 hours on the farm.
It was a wonderful experience for both of us and we love the close encounter that we could have with the animals. Worth a visit!
Faith has often read about farm animals and that day, the animals came alive and you should have seen her excitement and fascination with them.
We had a wonderful mother-and-daughter bonding time too as we talked about the farm animals and taking turns to take pictures of them. It pays to bring along a good camera to capture all those beautiful memories and I’m glad to be equipped with Canon’s EOS M10 during this trip.
Next stop, Puffing Billy & the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie!
I have mentioned before that I would like to expose Faith to different interests so that I could help her identify her strengths and work on it/them. The period before she enters Primary School is a great timing because she has extra pockets of time to explore and we would not be stressed out by the demands of school. So far, we have signed her up for music, swim, dance and Chinese class. She loves all of them except for dance. It’s exasperating to observe her dance movement and attitude during the Twinkle Toes’ sessions that we signed her up for at the Esplanade. We concluded that she does not have interest in it, at least for now.
Art. I think she has a keen interest in it judging by how she could focus on working on an art piece. She has often expressed that she would like to attend an art class and I jumped at the opportunity for her to go for one at TrehausKids during the September school holidays.
The theme for that session is Monsters and Faith was actually looking forward to that session because she genuinely loves the space at Trehaus (she has had very good memories there). Upon entering the class, she settled rather quickly though it was her first time meeting Ms Jessie Chandran.
Ms Chandran read them the book – Monsters Love Underpants – before getting them to work on a collage and subsequently the canvas painting of the Monster.
Definitely proud of her own work!
TrehausKids is launching regular weekly art classes at the Trehaus Studio, starting 16 September 2016. Helmed by TrehausKids Lead Facilitator and Art Educator, Ms Jessie Chandran, the weekly art classes happening every Friday is set to immerse young children in the world of modern and contemporary art while picking up core skills in painting techniques, colour mixing and sketching.
Every session, Ms Chandran will personally guide a small class size of no more than 8 students and mentor them on drawing, sketching and painting techniques to create their own masterpieces. In these sessions, students will explore different art medium such as watercolour and acrylics with a variety of painting tools to unleash their inner Warhol or Picasso. 😉
For younger students who are aged 3-4, theme-based art workshops will include storytelling to accompany each session. I heard there will be exciting tales from well-loved children’s authors such as Eric Carle and other famous classics!
While the sister was working on her creative piece, the brother was having a fun time in the next room.
The art class happens every Friday, starting 16 September
2:00PM – 3:30PM (3-6 years old)
4:00PM – 6 PM (7-10 years old)
Venue: Trehaus Studio
Cost of each session: $35 +GST (non members); $20 +GST (Trehaus members*)
Cost of one term of 4 sessions: $120 + GST (non members); $60 + GST (Trehaus members)
*Trehaus member refers to members on WORK or WORK + PLAY membership packages

Hello, dear readers, mummies friends, friends,
If you have been following this blog for a while, you will know that I am one of the ambassadors for Active Hive. I would like to invite you to a cozy session in which we could just chat about life as a mom/ woman, our kids and leading a healthy lifestyle. I would be baking some sweet treats ( it’s ok to indulge once in a while!) to serve you!
Besides the desserts, you will be treated to a complimentary body composition analysis and to try out the Minus Calories workout which really helps me in my exercise regime. The timing states from 2pm to 6pm but that is to accommodate the trying out of the Minus Calories workout. I understand many of us are pressed for time so I thought I should make this clear. 😉
If you are free, do join me! ME time!!
“Why don’t you be our brand ambassador?”
I am your regular mom, the stay-at-home type. I also blog (and am sometimes called a mom blogger), more on my kids and my other passions in life such as cooking and baking. Sometimes I do reviews of products that I want to try and which I believe in. Last year, Agnes from Active Hive asked me if I wanted to try their Minus Calories 30min workout. It was a month after I had delivered the boy and I had wanted to gain back my stamina so it was a definite yes for me.
In those five sessions, my muscle mass has increased and my metabolic age improved (you can read about my review here). I have had such a good experience with the workout that I continued with it at my own expense. Besides helping me in terms of my fitness, I also appreciate that such a form of ME time is spent wisely. Health is important to me and ME time maintains my sanity.
I am thankful and proud to be one of the few ambassadors for Active Hive. To me, being the brand’s spokesperson means advocating for the right approach to health and a balanced lifestyle. There is no shortcuts to being fit and healthy. We must all put in the right effort, balance, concentration, exercise, nutrition and rest and ultimately be responsible for our own health.
6 months post-partum and I was back to my pre-pregnancy weight, thanks to breastfeeding and all the various forms of workout (household chores included) that I attempt. My personal goal through Minus Calories 30min workout is to improve my stamina, increase my muscle mass and continue to have an improvement for my metablic age which currently stands at 28. I am not looking to lose weight or to achieve a body type that I could not attain. Being healthy and fit is.
I am slowly returning to running, a sports that I used to do very regularly before the kids came along. I want to do so with the family because I desire my children to develop a love for sports themselves and to lead a healthy lifestyle. To achieve that, we as parents have to be role models.
I must tell you it’s not easy. There are times when I prefer to rest at home as opposed to working out. I find having like-minded friends to exercise with you helps a lot. So, if you want to motivate me or need some encouragement to get yourself started and moving, I’m here!
Besides working out, having the right nutrition is equally important. If you have not already known, Active Hive promotes healthy eating through the sale of their superfoods like quinoa, Chia seeds, cold pressed cacao and Maca powder. I was a convert to these superfoods a few years back and am slowly introducing them to my children and husband.
I am proud to be representing Active Hive because I know the founders are passionate and genuinely care for the well being of their customers. I know that because I was once their customer and am pleased to note that they have been consistent in what they are doing. If you want to find out more about Minus Calories 30min workout or any other products/ services that Active Hive is providing, feel free to drop me an email and I would be more than happy to communicate with you.
I would be updating my ‘Back to Fitness’ journey on this space. Do look out for Motivational Monday’s post on them. Alternatively you can follow me on Instagram! Meanwhile, eat well, exercise right and stay healthy! 😀
Question: What do you do when you feel stressed?
So you must be wondering, “What stress do you have? You are not working. There’s no deadline. What’s there to be stressed about?”
Tantrums. Teaching my own kid. Meltdowns. Baby crying. These are enough to stress me out and I find myself reaching out for a piece of chocolate whenever I reached my max. This, happens rather frequently. Definitely not good for the waistline
Then BoxGreen contacted me and asked if I wanted to sample and review their products. Hello, BoxGreen. How do you know that I’ve been snacking?
In short, BoxGreen is a healthy snack subscription service that aims to promote healthier snacking by sourcing and delivering straight to the customers’ hands in the most hassle-free way possible. Their snacks are primarily made up of healthy nuts and chips and dried fruits. You choose how often you want to receive a box of 12 snack servings, select the snacks that you want and start snacking once you receive your box!
My box came a few days after I subscribed to it and I must say I love the packaging. It’s definitely good enough as a gift. Each portion is small which prevents you from overeating but the more important thing is they are healthy snacks (kinder to the waistline).
If you are those who are very mindful of what you are eating, right down to the nutritional value, BoxGreen provides such information in the box.
After tasting these snacks, I must say that they are really wonderful munch and I deem them suitable for my little girl. Now, I will always carry one or two packets of BoxGreen snacks in my bag because you’ll never know who might need it. The other day, I presented the snack to a pregnant mom while waiting for our kids to be released from school. She was so appreciative. And who can ignore hungry kids? These snacks really come in useful. I only wish they can be priced a tad cheaper. Having said that, I’m glad that BoxGreen actually donates a meal equivalent for every BoxGreen sold to Willing Hearts, a soup kitchen that helps the less privileged in Singapore. Well, at least the money is well-spent in this sense.
These packets of goodies are not just good enough as snacks, they can even be used as part of your recipe. Just yesterday, I topped my breakfast of salad + quinoa + avocado + fried quail egg + honey with their Banana Pecan Crumble. The result? YUMMY! I personally thought that the box is good as a gift to others!
Want to give BoxGreen a try? They are offering RaisingFaith readers a 30% discount! All you need to do is to sign up as a new subscriber and use the coupon code lynn30 before you checkout. Do note that this applies to the FIRST BOX only. Don’t worry. If you feel that the snacks do not fit you upon receiving your first box, you can simply cancel the subscription after that. Simple.
Do give BoxGreen a go.
Snack well, folks!
Disclaimer: I was given a box of healthy snacks from BoxGreen to sample and review. I have decided to do a full post because I really enjoy the snacks and hope that you, my readers, can benefit from it. I particularly love the Shittake Mushroom Chips and Banana Pecan Crumble. 😉
For a while now, I have thought of enrolling Faith in some gym/ enrichment classes. You see, being a Stay-At-Home-Mom (SAHM), I have the privilege of interacting with Faith
all most of the time. I read, play, do grocery shopping and take a walk with her, amongst the many other activities that we engage in. HOWEVER, there are times, oh, many times that I do not know what to do with her. Basically, I have run out of ideas! Fellow SAHMs, do you face the same issue?
After browsing parenting blogs like those of Candice and Adeline who share their experiences on Gymnademics, I emailed them about their trial class since I wanted to check out the environment for myself and see how Faith reacts to the class. But the sleep-deprived mom soon forgot about it until I received an email from the centre, inviting me to visit the outlet at Alexandra Retail Centre (ARC). It’s a timely reminder, so I thought, and made an appointment to go down.
We were warmly greeted by the staff and Joseph, the GM, walked through the programme with the hubs and me. The studios were visually colourful and child-friendly. Faith warmed up to Joseph minutes into the sharing and then busied herself with the musical instruments. She was really engaged with them as the hubs guided her to explore the instruments. No need Mama already!
After the brief introduction of the gym and what they do, I was all ready to enrol Faith in the class when I was asked if I would be interested to be their ambassador for a term. Why, yes, of course! This will be an awesome opportunity to learn more about Gymnademics, her vision and beliefs.
I am all eager for Faith to start and am thankful that the centre allows BOTH parents to be with the child during each lesson. So, that means all of us can learn together. I am also informed that the parents would be given some materials after each session so that they can reinforce what was learnt during the lesson at home. Let’s just see if this is true. 😉
Faith is going to start the lesson in about two weeks’ time and she will be attending the lesson at the ARC’s outlet. Apart from the fact that it is quite a distance from our home, I guess the other factors are still good and enticing enough for us to attend the class there. They include:
1) It is within a sheltered walking distance from Labrador Park MRT (circle line)
2) There are many F&B outlets at ARC (so we will also be exploring the makan places here!)
3) NTUC (can do grocery shopping!)
4) Parking is free on weekends (yay for those who drive!)
5) We can explore the area like the Hort Park, Henderson Waves, Labrador Park, etc after the session ( means family outing!)
I will be sharing Faith’s progress at Gymnademics for sure. Do stay tune as there will be some give-aways in future posts.
To celebrate the new outlet at ARC, Gymnademics is offering some opening specials when you sign up for a class package by 30 Nov 13:
She founded Style Essence which represents Mary Kay products and I have gone to her makeover session, bought some stuff and loving them. The products are not overly priced and work well. That makes me want to try their skincare products as well.
I know good hydration and sleep will do the job of keeping the skin supple but I don’t think I can afford good, uninterrupted sleep when I become a mother. Go ask da man if you don’t believe. So, nowadays, I have dull skin and the worse are my eyes. I don’t know what had happened but it seems, the crow’s feet or wrinkles (whatever) got worse and more visible. HELP!
I don’t know if these products from Mary Kay would help but let’s just try. We have quite a few items here which is worth $673:
– Plus+ Day Treatment SPF30
– Plus+ Night Treatment
– Plus+ Intensive Serum
– Plus+ Correcting Eye Cream
– True Dimension Lipstick
Today shall be the day! START!
