A little update about this SAHM

What have I been up to lately?

Since my last post on changes that happened on the home front, I have been involving myself with new mothers and hoping that with my limited experience as a stay-at-home-mom, I could at least help others. It’s been a joy thus far. Being a first-year mom is tough. There are so many things to learn, to handle and the learning curve is really steep. Hearing them out and helping them with similar kind of issues made me think back to the time when I  was a new mom myself. Oh, the struggles! So real. But that phase will soon be over ya?

img_5752

Besides this, I have also decided to devote some of my ME time with Mary Kay (MK) whose skincare products I have used since 2013 and have much confidence in. I was introduced to Mary Kay when I won an online contest to attend a beauty workshop organised by a mom blogger who is a MK consultant. I was extremely happy when I won the contest because I could go out and meet fellow moms! It was a really great feeling because I have been staying at home for six months since giving birth to Faith and not meeting up with many people (my friends were all working). Can you understand that yearning to meet adults other than your husband and child?

I enjoyed the workshop very much. There was so much laughter and learning and because the consultant (who is now my mentor) is a mom herself, the things she shared struck a chord with me. Of course, I saw how the products worked just through that one workshop and came out feeling really good about myself. My spirit was lifted and after that I contacted her to try more of MK’s products.

I have been using MK products for four years now and am convinced that they work for me and now I would love to share them with others too.

img_5165-1

Upon coming back from the recent Taiwan trip, I went for a training that helped me understand the MK opportunity more. That aside, I think I’m happier meeting up with people and to ascertain if the MK products meet their needs, and not forgetting the workshops that I could attend. They are so fun and enriching. I like it that I step out of the workshops each time with a thankful heart and all ready to get back to my mommy duties. I’m all refreshed. Don’t believe? Try to attend one workshop and you will understand why.

img_8164

Thus far, I have had the opportunity to meet up with some fellow moms who are ready to try the MK skincare products. As SAHMs (especially), the tendency is that we would neglect taking care of ourselves but I believe we should make ourselves the priority because if our heart is right (with God) and full, we could give back to the family. Sometimes, it can start simply with feeling good about ourselves, that we look great and refreshed as we gaze into the mirror.

img_6929

This is me sharing with a fellow SAHM about the TimeWise range that I have used all these years. It doesn’t take long and at times, I bring my kids along because I want them to see me ‘at work’. Anyway, they could gain access to the toys in the house that I visit. Good for them!

img_7855

This is the TimeWise range and is the skincare promotion for this month (November). For the same price for the TimeWise Miracle Set, you could also get the Moisture Renewing Softener and the pouch as shown in the picture above.

So yup, I’m a Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultant now and if you want to have a chat with me about the awesome products, workshops and opportunity, you could reach me at lynneelee101@gmail.com.

It’s really about enriching women’s lives. You’ll see.

img_5937

Oh yes, I have also started on #bbg since getting out of the house for a workout can be quite tough at times. Working out at home is the way to go for now. It has almost become a routine. Yay! And if you see the two MK bottles – TimeWise Body Smooth-Action Cellulite Gel Cream and TimeWise Body Targeted-Action Toning Lotion? They are to complement my workout and I have been using them since I gave birth to Dan. Good stuff!

Dan’s 1st BB Spa at Beauty.Mums & Babies

If you are a first-time mother, life can get pretty daunting as you navigate this new phase of your life. I remember surfing for information every other day and got stressed up over the many choices of (pre- and post-natal) services  that are available in the market. So I’m appreciative of one-stop wellness centres which help expecting and new mums ease comfortably into motherhood. One notable one is Beauty.Mums & Babies.

Beauty.Mums & Babies aims to guide mothers-to-be and new mothers from pregnancy to birth and through till infancy and toddler care by providing a range of services to prepare them to have a smooth-sailing motherhood journey as well as regaining health and confidence after birth.

Of their core services, Dan and I tried their BB Spa at Paragon.

img_5568

BB spa or more commonly known as a Baby Spa is an hydrotherapy environment where babies are gently put to float in a tailored tub. And it almost feels like a must-do with babies. I remember getting Faith to have her first experience of it when she was just three months old. It was rather easy to get her to enjoy that session; it was with minimal fuss. With Daniel, I waited until he was about 6 months old but by then it was a lot more challenging to get him into the water. Thankfully, he didn’t reject it although there was a slight resistance towards it in the first 5 minutes.

img_8238

There are many baby spas in Singapore but the BB Spa at Beauty.Mums & Babies stands out because it is the first to use the purest filtration method called ‘Naturalizer Kirameki Water’ from Japan to provide water as pure as spring water to treat babies’ skin. The extensive filtration method ensures safety for babies, and gets rid of carcinogenic unfiltered water. Bacteria and chemicals that may cause skin irritation are all thoroughly removed. It also contains 25 different beneficial minerals that nourishes and hydrates babies’ skin and helps to balance the pH of their skin such that it reduces its sensitivity.

img_5569

Too much information? Hah, so that you are well aware of the goodness of the water! Anyway, this is a fine piece of news to me since Dan’s skin is prone to eczema. Perhaps, with constant contact with such pure water, the eczema could be treated? You’ll never know!

The benefits to a baby spa are aplenty. Some of the key benefits are:

:: Improve skin conditions
:: Supports brain and physical development
:: Increases lung capacity
:: Strengthens cardiovascular system
:: Builds up immunity system
:: Stimulates innate swimming reflexes and co-ordination
:: Teaches babies to understand their environment

Dan and I visited the BB Spa at Paragon and the following are what I like about our experience there:

:: Clean and cozy environment. I am rather particular where cleanliness is concerned with regard to baby spa and I’m pleased with how well and neat the space is kept and maintained.

:: Experienced therapist. By the time Dan tried baby spa, he could well recognise faces and normally take some time to warm up to a stranger. The therapist showed her understanding in this area by not rushing through the process. She got Dan to be comfortable with her and showed him around the space. After some warm up and stretching exercises, Dan was well on his way to having a splashing good time.

img_0277

:: Multi-sensory experience. With bubbles, whirlpool jets, soothing light and heaps of little toys to choose from, Dan soon got engrossed in this form of waterplay! It’s such a delight to see him enjoying himself!

:: Relaxing massage. After the session, the therapist used gentle, soothing and loving strokes to massage the boy. The boy calmed down almost immediately and I learnt a stroke or two about baby massage.

BB spa is suitable for babies from 1 month old onwards so if you are interested, do take a trip down and treat your baby to a great workout!

While you are there, do check out the other wonderful services that they provide such as:

:: Infant, pediatric, toddler and children massage
:: Pre- and post-natal massage
:: Mummy & baby yoga
:: Pre- and post-natal yoga, couple yoga
:: Facial and beauty treatments
:: Lactation clinic
:: Baby care workshops and classes
:: Pregnancy and baby wellness workshops

Told you that you will be spoilt for choice, didn’t I?

You brought joy to the world, now it’s time to revel in bliss, like the queen that you are..

Towards better skin with NIVEA Body UV Whitening Serum

It’s been 14 days since I started using the NIVEA Body UV Whitening Serum with SPF25. In my previous post, I shared that applying body cream is not part of my skincare regime. However, habits can be formed when one does an activity regularly and that is what happened when I apply the NIVEA Body UV Whitening Serum for 2 weeks. What helps is having the tube of serum in sight (by placing it near the sink) and I would apply it when I come out of the shower and also once before I get out of the apartment to run my errands.

IMG_4762

I realised it really doesn’t take long to apply the serum on my body and what keeps me going is the refreshing scent and the smoothness of my skin minutes after applying it. I don’t even need to apply any perfume now!

Although I’m a homemaker, I don’t stay at home all the time. In fact, I can be out of the house a lot. A typical day for me sees me going to the wet market in the morning and that’s when I apply the NIVEA Body UV Whitening Serum with SPF 25. I do have to walk a distance to the market and protection from the harmful UV rays is always welcome. At times, I send Faith to my mom’s to run other errands and yes, even though we are inside a vehicle, our skin still needs to be protected.

IMG_4858 IMG_4856

Sometimes, when I’m out for lunch and in the hot sun, that’s when I wish I have brought the tube of NIVEA Body UV Whitening Serum with me. I can only hope that it still works to protect my skin. In the evening, I would go jogging with the hubs and Faith and if I remember, I would apply the serum (However, this activity was shelved when the haze condition worsened). My skin gets its last dose of the nourishment after my shower in the evening.

IMG_4865

If you can recall, the skin on my hand was rough and there were obvious pigmentation on the first day. The pores were big and I had uneven skin tone. Does it look dull to you too? I think so.

IMG_4861

I applied the NIVEA Body UV Whitening Serum religiously for the next 7 days and missed applying the serum only once when I was in a rush. The skin feels supple and smoother definitely. The pigmentation has lightened and can you see that the pores are no longer that big? I was rather surprised by the results and this has spurred me to continue using the serum because I really want to know what will happened within these 14 days.

20130623-205350.jpg

On the 14th day, although the pigmentation still exists (hmm, can they even disappear?), they are visibly lighter. The skin feels so much smoother as compared to the first day when I tried the serum. I like the fact that my skin is moisturised and it definitely feels more supple. No more rough skin! Overall, the skin does look a bit less dark (can’t really use fairer because I’m not in the ‘fair’ category to begin with).

I must say that the NIVEA Body UV Whitening Serum works well for my skin and I am satisfied with the results. I’m really not expecting anything spectacular to happen since my skin was rather ‘damaged’ during my 20s; I did outdoor sports a lot without any form of skin protection. However, my skin does improve within the 14 days of using the serum. For a product that is economically priced, it works wonders for my skin.

In short, here’s what I like about the NIVEA UV Whitening Serum:

1. The serum is lightweight and doesn’t feel sticky (very important factor to me). Instead, it is absorbed by the skin within minutes and the skin feels smooth.

2. Love the refreshing scent.

3. My pigmentation is lightened and my pores seem smaller.

4. My skin is protected by the harmful UV rays and it is an assurance for me to know that my skin gets vitamin C to repair the skin cells, especially during the hazy days.

5. No adverse skin reaction!

I will continue to incorporate the use of NIVEA UV Whitening Serum in my daily skincare routine and would recommend it to other mums.

NIVEA Body UV Whitening Serum with SPF 25 is available at a very affordable price of $9.55 if you want to purchase one to try.

NIVEA is carrying out an Instagram Campaign from the 3rd week of July to mid August 2013. During this period, all you have to do is to upload sunshots and outdoor activities – pictures that depict your lifestyle when you are out of the house – and insert with hashtags #NiveaSG #UVWhtSerum #Sunnyfun #Sunshine. The best photos with the hashtags enable you to win Nivea NIVEA hampers worth of $188 weekly! This is so exciting and I’m looking forward to your pictures!

I will continue to post pics on how the product works and fits into my lifestyle. Do follow me on Instagram (@lynninpics).

If you miss my initial review on the NIVEA Body UV Whitening Serum with SPF 25, here it is.

Radiant skin with NIVEA Body UV Whitening Serum (SPF25)

Friends will know that I am not one who applies cream on any part of my body except for moisturizer on my face. And the fact is I’m not even religious about the regime. I apply when I remember and if I forget, it’s just an ‘Oops!’ and life still goes on.

image_2

When I become a mother, taking care of myself with regard to the beauty department gets the lowest priority. I cannot put it across more clearly than the colloquial phrase ‘Where got time?‘ since the baby demands a lot of my attention, on top of the household chores. Being a first-time mother, I was also trying to grapple with the new role and added responsibility, so ‘looking good’ or having proper skincare regime’ has taken a back seat.

Thankfully, I have a mother who reminds me to take care of my skin since she has walked the path before. She keeps showing me the pigmentation on her hands and warns me to pay attention to the skin. When I was younger (in my 20s), she would nag at me for being under the sun since I loved to exercise in the outdoors. To be honest, I thought it was not necessary to apply anything since it is always so humid and I don’t like a layer of oil or cream on my body. I guess I am now bearing the consequences of not using any cream, yes, even sunblock (ok, I know ultraviolet rays are harmful!). The result is dull, uneven and rough skin. So when I was asked if I wanted to try the NIVEA Body UV Whitening Serum with SPF25, my reply was, “Why not?” I really ought to take care of my skin and perhaps start a regime of some sorts. Besides, it is also the first time that I hear of a body whitening serum and my interest was piqued. So, for the next 14 days, I will be trying out the NIVEA Body UV Whitening Serum to see if my skin will be noticeably more radiant and fairer.

The Product

IMG_1883

The NIVEA Body UV Whitening Serum is the first ever body whitening serum with SPF25, and it offers daily protection to prevent sun damage and skin darkening from the harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays. This is definitely a good piece of news for us who are living in a place with tropical climate since there is no way that we could avoid the attacks of the UV rays.

The NIVEA Body UV Whitening Serum is enriched with natural Vitamin C from Camu Camu and 95% Pure Vitamin C. In case you are wondering what Camu Camu is, a reading on it reveals that it is the most potent source of botanical vitamin C (30 to 50 times) in the world and is considered to be an antioxidant, astringent, emollient, and nutritive. Vitamin C itself can also reduce melanin production and lighten skin naturally. Enriched with this powerful anti-oxidant,  the NIVEA Body UV Whitening Serum is thus able to penetrate deeply into our skin to repair and restore accumulated sundamaged skin cells, and lighten dull and dark skin. In 14 days, it claims to help you achieve visibly fairer, more radiant and even toned skin.

Initial Review

image_1 (1)

I’m excited to try out this product especially after I realised how bad my skin looks under the scrutiny of the camera (oh my goodness!). There is definitely pigmentation and uneven skin tone which have gone unnoticed. The skin feels rough and this, I know for sure as I had a girlfriend who once told me that. *Ouch!* Truth hurts.

image_4

Day 1 of trying out the NIVEA Body UV Whitening Serum and it feels good. I like it that the serum isn’t thick like some other body cream or lotion. In fact, it is light and glides smoothly on my skin when I apply it on my body. I would have thought that it can be rather greasy but it isn’t! Minutes later, the serum seems to be absorbed into the skin and I love the feel of my skin. No longer rough! So maybe the moisturising effect is taking place!

I have sensitive skin which is also one of the reasons why I prefer not to apply any cream on my skin. Thankfully, it doesn’t cause any irritation on my initial application so it’s safe to continue using! I also love the refreshing scent which encourages me to apply more. The hubs also concurred that the scent is oh-so-nice!

I’m curious to find out how my skin will improve within the 14 days and will be following up with another post for the update. So stay tuned!
