Safra Yishun’s refurbished pools

Folks in the northern part of Singapore, you are in for a treat because Safra Yishun has reopened and you can look forward to its brand new Pirate Adventure Wet Play Pool. It promises fun and excitement!

img_3124

We went for its Aloha Pool Party in late April and everyone was well entertained. There were all sorts of water activities, pool games and performances by ukulele players and dances by hula girls. Some of the kids even went for a trial swimming lesson by FINS Swim School.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERASee the giant floats that filled the pool water!

This is Faith’s favourite spot which has a small slide. She went up and down umpteen times and not grew tired at all.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

My family members had so much fun that I felt sorry for myself who was standing outside the pool taking pictures of them. In the end, I joined them.

img_4432

Yay! This mama needed to play too!

img_4434

It was crowded that day and we wished we could have participated in all the pool games but I guess we were contented with just staying at this pool.

img_3170
This girl came with stomachache and as soon as she saw the excitement at the pool, all aches disappeared. See what fun can do to the body? ;p

[Product Review]

18118466_10154559272854677_5337041442138318456_n

Dan turned 19 months today and we are thankful that he is growing into an active child with his own unique personality. He is all shy with strangers and in new places but once he warms up, you will find him flashing his bright smile and he will be found all over the place. Told you that he’s an active boy!

Because young people like him grow in size really quickly, this also means we have to change his wardrobe every few months. We are thankful that we received a lot of hand-me-downs from relatives and friends and so far, Dan has been comfortable with what he is given to wear except for…shoes.

I find it difficult to find a pair of shoes that he is willing to wear besides the one that he was wearing. However, that pair was really getting old and he kept tripping every now and then. It was only until a fellow mommy who told me that his pair of shoes was getting too small for him that I decided to scout for one.

It was a challenge.

Dan’s feet were rather small and many shoes out there do not carry his size. Then a kind mom passed me some shoes for him since they were of the right sizes but tough luck, Dan rejected ALL of them. What was wrong with him?

Then I was introduced to Freycoo leather shoes for infants and toddlers and was asked if I wanted to let Dan try out a pair. Why not?

We went down to DearBaby™ at JEM to get Dan to try out the shoes. I could definitely get it online but I much prefer to let the boy try out to see if he’s comfortable with the shoes and if they are of the right fit. After all, he’s the one who is going to wear them!

18034292_10154559273179677_3377766813549043026_n

Upon selecting the particular pair and getting the right size for him, I got Dan to wear them and hope that he would not kick up a fuss and protest. Lo and behold, he didn’t complain at all and went around the store to look at the many children’s products in his new pair of shoes! I thought this tells a lot about that pair of shoes. In summary, it spells COMFORT to me.

Dan has been wearing this pair of shoes for almost a month now and here’s what we learnt and loved about Freycoo shoes:

:: Made with full genuine leather, Freycoo shoes are soft and durable and comfortable to wear from day one. We can certainly attest to that. On the day we tried out the pair of shoes, we threw the old one away and Dan walked away from the store wearing the new pair. ^5

:: Freycoo uses high quality genuine calf leather for shoe uppers. The inner insole and lining are made with premium pigskin for maximum comfort and ventilation. Based on past experience (his first pair), Dan’s feet will smell a little if he wears leather shoes for too long. However, this pair provides the ventilation that he needs which is really awesome! No more stinky feet!

:: Freycoo shoes have flexible non-skid rubber soles for traction and stability. The shoes have a wide opening and spacious toe box which accommodate Dan’s feet and give room for proper growth and development. The wide opening makes them quick and easy to put on.

:: Love the hook and loop closures because it can ensure perfect adjustable fit and I could get Dan to learn how to put on and take off the shoes himself.

17992204_10154559273164677_3842450984516326039_n

Apart from the above points, I think this pair is rather stylish and is suitable for every occasion. Dan has been wearing the shoes to beaches, parks, restaurants, malls…EVERYWHERE! The price is rather reasonable at a UP of $49.90.

Oh yes, this pair of shoes has a mechanism in the heel which rewards and encourages every step with a squeaky noise. So I’m not a big fan of the sound and thankfully, a set of non-squeak values is supplied and it just takes seconds to change them.

18034057_10154559273239677_333391361362335191_n

So yes, this pair of Freycoo toddler shoes won me over. Dan is still happily wearing them and if he grows out of this pair, I would definitely consider getting another one from Freycoo. Or perhaps I can consider buying another pair since now since all Freycoo shoes are currently on promotion at 15% off both via online and in store. Hooray! #buybuybuy

Pamper yourself with iROO this Mother’s Day

I am not a fashion blogger. I’m just a mom, the stay-at-home kind, who likes to record my children’s developments and I love to share teaching ideas or useful children’s stuff with fellow parents.

However, one fine day, I was invited to try out iROO apparel and since Mother’s Day is approaching, I thought ‘why not?’. Yea, it’s time for a good ME time and to indulge in some retail therapy! It’s time to reward myself with a new set of clothes since I’m always clad in the usual. Browsed iROO’s website and facebook page, like what I saw and accepted the invitation.

iROO is a Taiwanese fast fashion clothing label and each of its collection is infused with creativity to cater to the modern woman’s needs and offers exclusivity with limited stock per design. Each piece has a unique design, which adds value to the clothing and the wearer. The founder of iROO is committed to using quality materials for the clothing and stresses on providing exquisite customer service and the most comfortable shopping experience for the customers. Oh yes, this is a bit of information that you might want to know. iROO’s retail prices remain the same throughout so customers can put their utmost trust in the label. There will not be any sale or discount dished out, not even to the staff so if you own a piece or two of iROO apparel or fashion accessory, you can certainly take pride in them.

img_3501

There are five boutiques in Singapore and I went down to the one at Takashimaya Shopping Centre. I was then introduced to two style consultants, Felicia and Melody, and after getting to know a bit about me, they went through the boutique and selected pieces for me to try on. Okay, so I’m going to go out of my comfort level and try on clothes that I won’t usually pick and see how they would look on me.

img_3502

I like the dressing area. It’s so spacious and brightly lit.

Okay, so here goes, the different pieces that I tried on.

The first outfit is this red dress that looks rather refreshing on me. I’m usually in black or white so this is a good change to my wardrobe. It’s super comfortable, simple yet elegant.

I specifically told Felicia that I would like to try on some off-shoulders top and see if I could pull it off. Love the bold contrast of the top. Felicia then got me to try on this skirt. Not too bad!

18194869_10154579232079677_6304426998623145699_n

img_3877

This fun-loving top was chosen by Felicia and I thought it’s adorable! The hat of the girl was knitted, mind you! I had wanted this top so that I could so some matchy-matchy with my daughter but then again, am I too old for this? Hmmm…. but I love the pair of jeans! It fits me to a tee and I really like the embroidery and the design on one of the back pockets.

img_3885

This is likened to a cheongsam which fits me really well. I would have worn this to a dinner. On a side note, I’m so happy that Felicia obliged me and took pictures of me in the different outfits so that I could choose one at the end of the session. She’s very patient, fun-loving and professional all at the same time!

img_3878

Not my usual kind of dress but it looks not bad!

img_3886

img_3880

This is an outfit which I like. Love the off-shoulder bit and the design is very ME! But the style consultants felt that I should select something that I don’t normally go for yet one which I would be happy to wear it. I like their honest feedback.

iroo

Another set of clothes which shouts out to me. Love the blue off-shoulder stripey shirt paired with a very comfortable pair of white slim-fit pants. Good for a relaxed afternoon with the girlfriends.

img_3891

Felicia got me to try on this denim skirt because it would be a change to my usual choice of clothes. Looks decent!

img_3888

Such a bright sunny-side off-shoulder top that brightens me up instantly! I don’t usually go for yellow but through this experience, I think I could pull it off!

img_3876

If you are still reading, thank you for indulging me and bearing with my poses for the different outfits. I promise that this is the last piece. I like the casual look of this set; it makes me feel young!

I wish I have money to spare because every piece is unique and I was tempted to get a few pieces. I like the workmanship and the (good) quality could be felt as you put on the various pieces. But I could only choose one. Which one do you think I would select for myself as Mother’s Day gift?

I had a fun two hours at iROO, thanks to the wonderful style consultants who tended to me. They were very helpful, sincere and honest with their comments which I truly appreciated. The crowd came in after noon time and I saw the same level of professionalism being displayed. It seemed to me that many of the customers were regulars; they were so friendly and personal with them.

This Mother’s Day, treat yourself to a new piece of clothing perhaps? iROO is a good choice.

Labour day… at the Beach

So May has entered our lives. How did your Labour Day go? I was filled with thankfulness as I wrote this post. Today was great. The hubs was around and there wasn’t any schedule to adhere to. No enrichment classes, no other obligations to attend to. It’s a day of rest and fun.

I have always wanted to have a picnic by the beach and was only too glad that the hubs suggested it and invited our CG and friends along.

If it’s just us, we would normally play the frisbee and kicked a ball or two. But because we had friends joining us, our version of a Beach day expanded to…

img_3857

involve sand play. So the girl…and the boy were elated to be allowed to play because the mom had closed both eyes. You can imagine their joy.

img_3759

Girl party!

img_3791

The boy who, on several occasions, displayed fear of sand, now enjoyed it tremendously. Such a wonderful sight to behold.

img_3858

Whenever there are moms, you will not lack food. Okay, I must qualify that I brought nothing to the picnic except for a few cans of cold drinks. These two moms especially the one in the middle, prepared so much homecooked food that it doesn’t make sense for me to bring more. This is an awful excuse, of course. But anyway, one thing’s for sure – we are immensely blessed.

img_3786

See how my kids have benefitted from the kind gestures of the other moms?

img_3853

The girl had her first real encounter with kite-flying. She was thrilled, especially when she saw her kite soaring in the sky.

img_3841

See those smiles on the girls’ faces? Priceless.

img_3862

🙂

img_3860

It’s a wonderful first day of May and it has started well. May we be rid of sickness and tantrums (haha) and be filled with the presence of God and joy each day.

Appreciating da man in our lives

This post has been waiting to be published and finally I remember to do so.

I am writing this post to show a little appreciation to the man in our family.

If we scout the Internet for parenting-related articles, we will find that there are more articles that share about life as a mom, the changes that go through the mom’s body after giving birth and how much they need time off from the children, just to name a few. I’m not sure about you but at least these are the ones that appear more often on my FB feed and I’m immensely thankful to some of these articles because the writers encourage me in this parenting journey.

At times, I thought about the fathers. The kind of pressure they face at work and at home. How they feel coming back to a frustrated mom and cranky kids after a day at work. I tried asking da man about his thoughts but he would often shrug his shoulders and reply, “Work is work.” And nothing else.

I have to mention this bit of information about da man. Upon reaching home, he would help to shower the kids, spend some time with them before turning in for the day. And he does the night shift, just so that I could catch some sleep.

Surely, he’s tired.

So when Floral Garage approached me if I would want to receive a DIY room/party decor kit that is inclusive of DIY Decor items and faux flowers, I thought we could plan a surprise for da man.

img_1967

If you find the contents to be too feminine for da man, I don’t disagree with you. After all, it was initially meant to be used to decorate Faith’s room but I was thinking that the girl would be distracted by the beautiful decor items and would encounter problem falling asleep. So, we decided that we would work together to decorate the wall at the dining area so that when Papa comes back home, he would have a neat surprise!

The girl was obviously excited to be part of this plan and we decided to choose the word ‘LOVE’ on the wall. Using the washi tape provided in the box, I spelt out the word so that Faith could tape the faux flowers and leaves onto it. It’s a lot of fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination work!

img_4486

I just want to warn you that this might take a full one or two hours, depending on how fast your kids work. Faith was really on the ball and did most of the decoration on her own while I prepared dinner. We did have problems with the pom poms though because we had to separate each piece of paper carefully. This really tested our patience! And we left out the tassels since we did not want to crowd the wall.

img_4470

Kids being kids, she got distracted in the process.

This is the completed wall, a simple one but filled with loads of love and effort, especially from the girl. This is a good craft activity and if you are planning for some birthday celebration and want to DIY, this kit will definitely come in useful!

img_4561

So, da man came back and.. didn’t show any sign of surprise at all! It’s life as usual for him. Grrr…but in the end, we had fun taking wefie against the backdrop. Creating memories, so they say.

After a few days, we took down the decor and I kept the faux flowers and leaves properly since I know I will reuse them.

[Giveaway] Minus Calories NIR SPEEDS workout

Psst…Did you know that Active Hive has launched its second near infrared NIR elliptical fitness workout – Minus Calories NIR SPEEDS workout?

I am privileged to be among the first few to try out this machine and over the past two months, I have used it to help me train for the runs which I have signed up such as the recent Salomon x-trail run. The weather these days have been erratic but I know I could depend on the cross trainer to help me in my fitness and exercise performance.

Just a little information about the Minus Calories NIR SPEEDS workout. This workout uses a cross trainer that is combined with near infrared NIR technology and Ionised Air to enhance our sports performance, fitness levels, and fats and cellulite burning up to four times faster than traditional aerobic workouts. Depending on our fitness level and needs, training programmes of varying intensities are recommended to optimise our exercise performance.

dsc05945

Another important thing that I need to mention is that the near infrared NIR penetrates deep into the skin tissue which helps to quickly warm up the muscles, target fatty tissues and activate the sweat glands. This improves oxygenation and hydration of skin tissues, enhances blood circulation and encourages the release of toxins. The enhanced perspiration ensures maximum effect of fat burning at optimum effort to attain our fitness goals. Near infrared NIR also specially targets fats molecules in areas with cellulite, such as the thighs and buttocks.

14956530_10154060965844677_6807108579912116226_n

If you think this is too much information, I don’t blame you. This workout is truly that and I can tell you a million things about it but the best way to understand how it works is to try it yourself. Another important thing to bear in mind is to be consistent.

Since weaning Dan off breastfeeding, I find that it is so easy to put on weight. I didn’t consume more than the usual portion but the fats find its way around my thigh area. I really ought to be consistent in my workout! I find that it is ideal if I could do the workout twice a week (based on experience). The holiday season is coming and there will be a lot of celebrations and eating (no doubt) coming up. Time to hit the machine!

If you are still doubtful of the workout, I’m pleased to inform you that Active Hive has kindly sponsored 5 readers to try out TWO sessions of the Minus Calories NIR SPEEDS workout. After the trial, you can then decide for yourself if this works for you.

All you need to do is to comment in this post or on my FB page post that “I would like to go for a trial!” and leave your email address so that we can contact you. I will then randomly pick 5 winners! This giveaway ends on 9 November 2016 and I will announce the winners on 10 November okay?

14721540_10154060958694677_3198219329974357199_n

It’s November already. Let’s get moving! Ganbatte, everyone!

Dan’s 1st birthday

Birthday celebration. Purpose? To create memories and hopefully, they are good ones.

Over the weekend, we organised a small celebration for my family at our apartment. It was a simple affair. I prepared dinner for them and it was a privilege to do so since there wasn’t much opportunity to do that often; everyone is busy. Of course, the highlight is the dessert table. I am perhaps the only person who is excited about this. I love the idea of a dessert table but didn’t like the work. Faith didn’t have her first birthday celebration because we were too lazy to organise one. Her subsequent birthdays included a cake which was an improvement. This time round, I thought I should be a bit more diligent and organise a slightly more elaborate one for Dan and Faith in November.

Okay, I would disclose a bit more. It’s because I was a bit bored and wanted to do something more exciting and thus decided to do a dessert table. The fact that I came across some adorable party decor further fuelled my interest. When I told the hubs about my intention, he ROLLED HIS EYES. Oh, whatever! ;p

img_9711

On Saturday morning, I gathered the party decor and baked a pandan chiffon cake and sugar cookies before going through the mundane – doing the laundry, sending the girl to swim class, cleaning the bathroom, etc.

The theme was about polar bear and friends, just because the party decor that I bought contain those pictures. I know this is not very creative of me but I wouldn’t want to spend too much time thinking about themes. Besides, I’m quite sure Daniel doesn’t mind at all.

img_9421

Dinner comprised pan-fried salmon, a stir-fried broccoli dish, baked honey mustard chicken wings, seaweed chicken bites, soy sauce braised pork belly dish and fishball, meatball soup. So happy that they were all wiped out or was it because I didn’t prepare sufficiently? Geez…

img_9605

The dessert table was set up after dinner. Okay, my family was like ‘whatever, we just want dessert’; they didn’t really care about aesthetics. However, they graciously allowed me to do my thing and I promptly did so while trying to avoid their what-are-you-doing look.

img_9434

img_9557

And so, there you have it – Daniel’s first birthday celebration. I have created some memories for the children! Yay! I did have fun designing and coming up with the simple dessert table. Maybe I could do something for Faith’s birthday as well?

Hmm, that will depend on whether I have the time and energy then. ;p

P.S. A special thanks to my sister who helped me capture the memories using the Canon EOS M10.

Canvas Painting at TrehausKids

img_7780

I have mentioned before that I would like to expose Faith to different interests so that I could help her identify her strengths and work on it/them. The period before she enters Primary School is a great timing because she has extra pockets of time to explore and we would not be stressed out by the demands of school. So far, we have signed her up for music, swim, dance and Chinese class. She loves all of them except for dance. It’s exasperating to observe her dance movement and attitude during the Twinkle Toes’ sessions that we signed her up for at the Esplanade. We concluded that she does not have interest in it, at least for now.

Art. I think she has a keen interest in it judging by how she could focus on working on an art piece. She has often expressed that she would like to attend an art class and I jumped at the opportunity for her to go for one at TrehausKids during the September school holidays.

The theme for that session is Monsters and Faith was actually looking forward to that session because she genuinely loves the space at Trehaus (she has had very good memories there). Upon entering the class, she settled rather quickly though it was her first time meeting Ms Jessie Chandran.

img_7712  img_7742-1

Ms Chandran read them the book – Monsters Love Underpants – before getting them to work on a collage and subsequently the canvas painting of the Monster.

Definitely proud of her own work!

TrehausKids is launching regular weekly art classes at the Trehaus Studio, starting 16 September 2016. Helmed by TrehausKids Lead Facilitator and Art Educator, Ms Jessie Chandran, the weekly art classes happening every Friday is set to immerse young children in the world of modern and contemporary art while picking up core skills in painting techniques, colour mixing and sketching.

Every session, Ms Chandran will personally guide a small class size of no more than 8 students and mentor them on drawing, sketching and painting techniques to create their own masterpieces. In these sessions, students will explore different art medium such as watercolour and acrylics with a variety of painting tools to unleash their inner Warhol or Picasso. 😉

img_7760-1

For younger students who are aged 3-4, theme-based art workshops will include storytelling to accompany each session. I heard there will be exciting tales from well-loved children’s authors such as Eric Carle and other famous classics!

While the sister was working on her creative piece, the brother was having a fun time in the next room.

img_7767

The art class happens every Friday, starting 16 September
2:00PM – 3:30PM (3-6 years old)
4:00PM – 6 PM (7-10 years old)

Venue: Trehaus Studio
Cost of each session: $35 +GST (non members); $20 +GST (Trehaus members*)
Cost of one term of 4 sessions: $120 + GST (non members); $60 + GST (Trehaus members)

*Trehaus member refers to members on WORK or WORK + PLAY membership packages

Stamping Ground Coffee

One of the perks of being a SAHM is to be able to have brunch with fellow moms during the weekdays and more often than not, you won’t meet with a crowd. Of course, if you can get someone to help mind the baby for just a short period of time, it would really be an awesome ME time activity.

A few days ago, I checked out the Stamping Ground Coffee along Upper East Coast Road and was totally mesmerized by the interior. What a relaxing place! I just love everything about the decor!

img_4682

Since it was a weekday, there were only a few customers and I felt totally at ease with Daniel.

Soon, my mommy friends arrived and we had a heart-to-heart talk about things that matter to us. It was really serene and I would recommend this place!

img_4687

I had my usual cafe latte and since we met for brunch, we had a go at their food.

img_4697

I must say it’s satisfying!

The other side of the cafe houses a beautiful space where floral arrangement and jamming could be conducted – Dawn Q Floral Design. It’s such an inviting space! I must find time to have a floral jamming session, just for the fun of it!

Definitely going back for more. Grab a book or something. It’s a place for retreat!

Run with peace of mind

We are days away from the upcoming Spongebob run in which we would participate as a family. I’m a bit apprehensive because I know that the girl wouldn’t last that distance – 5km – and we are ready to get her to hop onto the Hauck Viper stroller while I carry the boy in the carrier.

I thought I should just take advantage of the Customer Care Program that comes with the purchase of any Hauck product.

13731057_312925465717594_7308765056613873194_o

So we went down to the showroom last week to get the stroller checked and serviced. Now, we can certainly run with peace of mind. Hopefully, the weather would be awesome!

Alternative Breakfast Ideas

This post came about because I just returned from an event at Active Hive and was treated to a wonderful sight of Chia Seed Pudding.

img_1730

I know each jar of these Chia Seed pudding contains a lot of goodness in them and I was thinking, “Perhaps I should consider having them as my breakfast? Or make overnight oats so that the hubs could bring it to his office instead of always having sandwich as his meal?”

img_1604

You see, I’m a bit concerned for him because his metabolic age was 57 at a recent body composition analysis at Active Hive and his Visceral Fat Percentage is 14 which is alarming. Thankfully, he was willing to start working out together with his wife using the Minus Calories workout. #sorrynotsponsored. And I thought it was a good start as we take baby steps to gain back our stamina and health.

img_1713

To take a step further, perhaps we could have alternatives to our breakfast?

There are really a lot of resources available on the internet with regard to overnight oats so I’m going to be lazy and just post the pictures and links to the ones that I would be trying out because they are so easy to prepare!

Because blueberries are on offer now, so this makes it to the list as well.

I think I shall do the grocery tomorrow and start my overnight oats adventure! School reopens tomorrow. All the best!

Jogging with Hauck Viper Pushchair

If you have been following this blog for a while, you would know that I like jogging a fair bit. In fact, it used to be my favourite past time before I had kids. I would jog five days a week, ranging from 5 to 10km per session, depending on how much time I had.

After I had my first kid, exercising was drastically minimised. In order to jog, it’s either I get someone to look after the kid or I could jog with her in the stroller. We didn’t have a jogger stroller but we have a sturdy standard-sized one that could do the job all right. Jogging with that stroller was fine but not great.

On Mother’s Day, I was gifted a hauck Viper Pushchair which is a three-wheeled buggy for sporting parents. After jogging with it for the first time, I realised the great difference it makes to jogging (the run is so much smoother) and would recommend parents who like running (especially) or want to exercise with the baby to consider buying a jogger stroller.

And you might want to consider the hauck Viper Pushchair.

img_0739

Since receiving the hauck Viper Pushchair, I have been using it to jog with Daniel on different terrains like the gravel, sand, track and road. I find that it is easy to steer and the ride is smooth. I can definitely feel the bouncy benefits of the rear-wheel suspension, especially when pushing it across grass or gravel paths. It is definitely a great contrast to the previous stroller and if you look at the wheels of the hauck Viper Pushchair, they are big and that means less effort to push when you are jogging.  The result is a more enjoyable jog for me.  I find myself more motivated to exercise with the cool hauck Viper Pushchair. It definitely looks and feels more right to work out with this jogger stroller! #notmakingthisup

Let’s talk about the specifications.

The hauck Viper Pushchair weighs 9.5kg which is considered lightweight in the category of jogger strollers. But to be honest, it did seem heavy to me when I first handled it because I was used to my 7kg standard stroller all these while. After using the hauck Viper Pushchair for a few times, it does get easier to handle so it’s not a big problem.

img_0101

The hauck Viper Pushchair requires a 2-hand flat fold to collapse and comes with a neat folding mechanism that tucks the front wheel underneath. When folded, it stays compact and is easily kept in the car boot. Personally, I find opening of this stroller easier than folding it. I just need to hold the bar handle and use my leg to push the metal bar at the bottom which acts as the lock for the stroller. Oh yes, the front swivel wheel is lockable which is helpful if you are travelling on rough ground.

The hauck Viper Pushchair has a very roomy basket which is truly awesome because I could put a baby carrier and my handbag in it and there’s still room for more stuff. This is a plus point for the auntie in me since I use it to do grocery after the morning exercise. The purchases go in there!

img_1188

As with most strollers, the hauck Viper Pushchair comes with the multi-recline function (you adjust it at the rear using a toggle) and the hood is on the generous side which provides a decent amount of shade for the baby. It seeks to offer maximum safety with its 5-point harness and provides a spacious and comfy seating ( lying area is 85 cm with its seat width as 33cm). It is well padded and the foot rest is easily adjustable. However, I do find it a bit fiddly to adjust the 5-point harness so after I have done it properly, I left it as that until it needs to be readjusted again.

img_8067

Sadly, the seat of the hauck Viper Puhchair is forward facing only and if you want your child to look at you as you jog, this is not quite possible. However, it doesn’t seem like a real need as Dan was mostly asleep when I jogged with him in the stroller. Maybe he’s too comfortable in the stroller? In fact, there was only once when he cried for me to pick him up and that was the second time that I used the stroller. After that, he was mostly quiet as I pushed him.

img_1192

So far, I am really happy with the hauck Viper Pushchair but if there is one thing that really gets to me, it is the possibility that I would get the foam-covered single bar handle dirty when I rest it this way (see pic above). There was once when I placed it on a puddle of water (blur me!) and it got wet. I suppose I could wrap it with a cloth or some wrap.

img_0837

Apart from this, I find that the viewing window at the back of the canopy to be a bit on the smaller size and at times I couldn’t tell how the kiddo is doing unless I stoop down to see him. Besides these, I see no major problem with the design of this jogger stroller. More importantly, it has been a smooth ride for us!

img_0082

Jogging with the hauck Viper Pushchair has been truly enjoyable and knowing that there are not many pieces of it on the streets (yet) makes it even more special. Hah! You see, hauck strollers have just reached Singapore shores a few months ago even though it has been making quality products for babies and young children since 1927! Originating from Sonnefield, Upper Franconia in Germany, hauck is a family business that started from handcrafted basket bassinets in 1923. Christening robes were added to their collection and strollers and cots were added in the 1970s. Now hauck products have been offered on all continents in over 86 countries. It remains a family business till today and the family has passed its experience and knowledge from generation to generation.

img_1225

All of hauck products were tested by renowned national and international testing institutes, such as TÜV, SGS, LNE etc., and comply with international safety standards. Their products are awarded with a TÜV sign from certified testing institutes when the safety of the device has been tested according to the respective standards.

So, yea, it sure feels good to know that I’m owning a quality and exclusive jogger stroller!

Staycation with little ones

I don’t know about you but we have had little luck with staycation. Whenever I read blogs about how fun staycation can be for other families with young kids, I couldn’t help but envy. We had our fair share of hotel stays since Faith came along but none came close to being “excellent”. Don’t get me wrong. It’s not that the hotels aren’t doing their best to make our stay pleasant; it’s just us. I personally find staycation to be a tad tiring until perhaps, the kids are older?

Are we the only ones having such ‘bad’ experience?

Last Friday, after Faith had her music class, we zipped to Amara Sanctuary Resort for our staycation. The girl knocked out once she was in the car. Too tiring, I suppose, and we had a late check in.

Kachang puteh and their signature drink, something familiar and refreshing.

The boy was surprisingly alert and active at 4pm while the sister continued to zzzzz… her way to the room in the stroller. Had she been awake, we would have gone exploring the hotel premise quite immediately upon checking in.

We waited for her till she awoke from her nap. Refreshed and happy the way I like it. There’s less chance of dealing with a cranky kid and we definitely do not need that on a staycation.

Before we could do anything interesting, it’s dinner time. I made an appointment for a massage at night because it’s such a waste not to have such a luxury in a resort, isn’t it?

We didn’t have any fancy meal but I’m come to a stage where I’ve learnt to be contented – that if I see my loved ones enjoying the company of each other, that’s enough. Good enough.

And we had that.

Evening. I went for my massage session while the hubs tried to put the kids to bed. I returned, and learnt that he has just gotten the baby to sleep (after an hour of attempt) and the girl? Waiting for me to come back and sleep with her.

Life with young kids…

The following day, it rained. It always, 90% of the time, rains when we are on staycation. I couldn’t understand the logic but I have already managed my expectations so I wasn’t too upset by it. Had our breakfast which was nothing to boast about. Once the rain got lighter, I beckoned the girl to go jalan jalan (explore) with me.

Let the boys have their sleep. All of us didn’t sleep well the night before because Dan had been waking up a few times that night.

Life with young kids…

I love the resort. It is tranquil and I thought it is a good place for a short retreat.

It’s a haven for nature lovers. If I was to come alone, I would have gone for a morning jog at the gym, cool down with a walk around the premise and refresh myself with their signature drink at the hotel lobby.

Air is fresh and this architecture lovely.

And we found a peacock feather on the way.

The pool is so inviting and yet we could only gaze…

…or dip our toes in it.

Oh, all right. It’s not too bad after all. We met the resident peacock and its young.

Back to our room and it’s more viewing of the black box and eventually some work on her own. Life with young kids. You really ought to pack stuff for them to do when you go places. When kids are bored, you are doomed.

So we didn’t get to use the pool but thankfully, there’s the bath tub.

She spent half an hour having a splashing good time in it.

Contentment.

With that, we packed our bags and got ready to head home. Faith must have been happy for she kept asking us why we couldn’t go home that evening, how she wanted to go home and that she didn’t like to be away from her humble abode.

Gah… What is wrong with (our) staycation?

Thankfully, we had a very satisfying citron and chocolate mille crepe at Lady M and that made my day.

Another staycation? We will try again.

Shopping with Agape Babies

Faith is going to school next year and that means it’s time to shop for stuff! How exciting! {Window} Shopping has been one of my favourite past time but lately, this activity has been reduced drastically because I simply have no time to do so anymore. Thankfully there are always online stores and I appreciate those that are easy to navigate because I don’t really like confusing layout. One of them is Agape Babies.

unnamed

Agape Babies specializes in baby essentials such as diapers, milk, skincare, organic food, books and toys and is currently partnered with over 150 premium brands and retail over 3000 products in its store. It has also created a multi-store with The Sunshine Kids which are dedicated to kids apparel, bags and accessories. This means that we can shop between both stores and check out in one shopping cart! Isn’t that good? The folks at Agape Babies are presently looking to add more stores & products with the aim to become a one-stop shop for all of us mummies  so that shopping can be easy & convenient. This is really one online store that I would bookmark and frequent!

unnamed-1

Just look at the many brands that the store carries and I’m so happy that some of my favourite brands are among them!

20141114_084101

So, what did I get for Faith? I’ve been meaning to buy a Skip Hop Zoo Backpack for her since the current one that she has is getting too small. As I browse the store, I found one that I thought would be awesome on her. It’s a limited edition of the Polar Bear backpack. I couldn’t find this design in the usual stores and I’m so delighted to find it at The Sunshine Kids at a discounted price. Yay!

z_zoopacks_polarbear_s1_h_

Currently, Agape Babies is offering free courier delivery with $80 spend and a free gift given with every $120 purchase. So I thought I should purchase a few more items to enjoy the free delivery.  I bought the Bambino Mio training pants because I think Faith is ready to be potty-trained, along with a pair of swim nappies.  This girl just loves waterplay and swimming!

flower-1  swim_nappy_pink_whale

My experience with Agape Babies was a very pleasant one because I received the purchased goods really quickly. I made my purchase in the evening and got them the next morning. It’s the fastest delivery I have ever encountered! *impressed*

If you are a first time customer, you can enjoy a $10 off your first order when you sign up for an account and newsletter here! I’m also excited to share that Agape Babies is offering Raising Faith’s readers a 5% discount! All you need to do is to quote raisingfaith upon checkout. This discount is valid for 4 weeks (16 Nov to 14 Dec) and the code excludes sale category items, diapers, milk & breast pumps.

Apart from the online store, Agape Babies also has a parenting & lifestyle blog entitled The Agape Lifestyle. There are many good articles for new mummies and are certainly worth reading! Check out their facebook page to get yourself updated! Alternatively, you can always stalk them on Instagram (@agapebabies)!

Christmas is just round the corner, go do some shopping and enjoy the discount! 😉

Disclaimer: I was gifted shopping credits from Agape Babies to purchase the mentioned products and I topped up for the remaining amount. No additional monetary compensation was given and I do not stand to gain any commission from sales using the discount code given. All opinions are mine.

Alive Museum

One good thing about being a SAHM and one whose kid is not in school is the fact that we could plan impromptu outings and that is exactly what I did for today. SIL gave me some complimentary tickets to Alive Museum and I got Mummy T and Belle to go with us. Since the kiddos are not yet three years of age, they could go in free (which otherwise, they would have to pay $20 per entry). Yay to #funforfreesg. Hah!

20141107_114332-MOTION

We were there early because we wanted to avoid the crowd. Besides, the kids are most alert in the morning and have the tendency to respond well to our requests.

20141107_103642

2014-11-07 14.31.05

The crowd came in half an hour later and it was getting difficult to get decent photos of the kids. They must be wondering what was wrong with their mummies that morning since they were whisked from one small area to another and all they were asked to do was to look at the camera. I could tell that Faith was frustrated and disturbed by some of the pictures and soon became a little fussy.

2014-11-07 14.33.31

20141107_112422

There is obviously a need to wait since we needed to take turns to take the pictures. I could only imagine the great crowd and frustration one would feel if he was to go during the weekends. To be perfectly honest, I don’t think this is a great place for toddlers to hang out. Maybe it would be better if they are older and could understand instructions better since they have to pose in a certain manner to have maximum effect. Even if you are so interested to go, I would strongly recommend extra pairs of hands. Mummy T and I had to make sure the toddlers don’t run off while one of us helped to take pictures.

I think Alive Museum would be a great place to visit if you are going without young kids (haha). At the very least, you could spend more time going through each art piece and posing in/with it, that is if you are game for it.

20141107_124538

Our children had more fun and laughter after being issued a balloon each during lunch.

F’s first experience with stage performance

So we went for the Hairy Maclary & Friends show during the weekend. To be honest, I wasn’t sure what to expect in terms of Faith’s reaction to it. She’s a bit young, a month more to being TWO, and the show caters to young children from 2+ years old onwards. We’ll just give it a try, I reckon. There is really no harm in trying.

IMG_20141011_160018

We arrived at the library a tad earlier, to return the books that we had borrowed in order to help Faith get acquainted with the characters in the books. I was pleasantly surprised, upon reaching the lobby, that there was a small counter selling books by the author and other children’s books and some artwork done by preschoolers.

20141011_162028

20141011_162036

We met an ex-colleague who bought the tickets way back in March for her twin kids. Her kids were excited about the show since they have been reading the books in their preschool. How wonderful is that? I had my hopes up from that point forth. Surely, Faith would enjoy too?

The show didn’t disappoint. In fact, Faith was engaged and sat through the 55-minute show. This was really surprising because she is a high kinesthetic learner and to have her sit down for 15 minutes is a great feat already, but 55 minutes? I was all prepared to bring her out of the theatre when she gets restless but hey, there’s nothing of that sort. In fact, she was laughing at the characters and watching intently at them! As a result, I got to enjoy the show as well.

I love the beautiful music and lyrics and the actors sang them with clarity. The music was catchy and upbeat which was great for kids. Love that the characters of the books came alive during that show and the audience was just entertained by them. It also helps that the audience was encouraged to be part of the show too by performing certain actions with regard to the story.

20141011_162858

This is Faith’s first time in a theatre and she was busy checking it out.

20141011_173259

Yay, I’ve got a balloon!

After the show, the children were given a balloon and a bag with promotion of upcoming shows by Kidsfest for the following year. All of them are good titles and since Faith enjoyed this show as much as her parents, I believe we would be bringing her to more next year! The shows run from January 21 2015. Be sure to check them out! I know I will!

Our first weekend together

Excitement is in the house as we welcomed our brother and his family back for a month. My parents have been waiting for this day for so long and it is a no wonder that mom got busy on that day when they arrived = scrumptious dinner!

We spent our first weekend together at Sentosa as we wanted to bring them to the Port of Lost wonder. My brother has been stationed in Shanghai and my nephew has little opportunity for water play. We must expose him more!

20140726_094542-EFFECTS

The kids were waiting rather impatiently, especially the older ones since they knew what to expect.

20140726_095643 20140726_095640

As usual, we were the first in line because we were simply kiasu! Hah!

20140726_100122

Yay! Off we go!

20140726_100628

Faith and her cousin, Lester, who seemed very apprehensive.

20140726_112957

Remember to get the kids to drink lots of water and apply the sunscreen!

20140726_113237

The younger kids stopped playing after an hour while the older ones were still enjoying themselves.

20140726_122746

Eventually we stopped and proceeded to Siloso Beach for our lunch. It’s to Coastes again! We chose this eatery because we wanted a place that the kids could continue to play while the adults had their meal. Play what, you ask. Sand!

20140726_122415

20140726_123443

Remember Faith is afraid to go into the sand, let alone play with it? I think {good} peer influence is important because when she saw that her cousins were playing, she went ahead as well.

20140726_131948

And then when she saw that her cousin Dayen was fetching water from the sea, she wanted to do so too which was really surprising! We brought her once to the beach and she resisted the waters but now, she wanted to do it. I grabbed the opportunity to go into the waters with her. I’m reminded again to always observe what’s she doing and to encourage her (not to restrict her) whenever she’s ready for any task/adventure. In today’s case, it’s the sand and seawater!

20140726_124137

The adults had a relatively easy time for lunch. Yay!

20140726_134357-ERASER

It’s an enjoyable weekend, I must say. Not sure where we would be headed to next as a family.

😉

WW | Happy days!

Our country experienced a dry spell recently and it was made worse with hazy weather. So, one can imagine our joy when it rained recently and the skies cleared! We took the opportunity to go outdoors! This time round, mom joined us too at the reservoir.

Sometimes I wish…

We visited the Asian Civilisation Museum last Saturday, taking advantage of the free admission (to 7 museums) that citizens and PRs are entitled to. Usually, our weekends are confined to our home or visiting the in-laws since by the end of Friday, both da man and I are kind of exhausted. Boring peeps, I know, so I thought we should just go out for a change.

20140224-143247.jpgTo be honest, sometimes I wish we could have more time for family life. Working parents have little energy left at the end of the day and could only spend that little amount of time with the spouse or children, not to forget that they need some ME time to recharge. Personally, I felt it last week. Da man had been busy at work and we hardly had time to TALK. Weekends are really precious then.

Love the walk along the Singapore River. The weather has been great though I wish at times, that rain will come soon. It’s quite a funny sight to see Faith walking along the path.

20140224-143255.jpgFaith’s enthusiasm was short-lived for she felt asleep soon after. The cool and quiet environment must have been rather conducive!

20140224-143615.jpg 20140224-143605.jpg
20140224-143322.jpg 20140224-143340.jpg

Mid-way through, we checked into Madame Patisserie for a coffee break. Faith was sleeping soundly in the pram and it could give both of us some couple, if not, ME time! I couldn’t say much about the service and the food but what we like is the rather quiet environment (yes, in the afternoon!) and beautiful riverside view.

20140224-143358.jpg 20140224-143407.jpg 20140224-143417.jpg 20140224-143426.jpg

Faith woke up very soon and decided to wander off to explore Boat Quay! Next to the cafe is a seafood restaurant and they have really HUGE sea creatures! Amazing!

20140224-143507.jpg 20140224-143517.jpg

It can be rather tiring watching out for her! The most endearing sight was seeing da man spend time with her. I wish there are more such opportunities!

Where shall we go next weekend?

Night scene in SG

I never knew the night scene in downtown Singapore is so alluring. Had the opportunity to have a most scrumptious Thai dinner and followed by a cruise along the Singapore River. Lovely. If you have the chance to visit this little red dot, do make it a point to go for this activity. S$20 for a 40-minute ride. Not a bad deal. 😉

Dinner at Tom Yum Kungfu. Delish! Think I'm gonna miss this group of wonderful and talented people once this week is over.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…

The weekend saw us busy ourselves with the decorating of a ….Christmas tree!

It’s our first time having a real tree, courtesy of the sister-in-law who wanted to bring on some cheer to the folks. It’s rather fun, I must say!

On reflection, I’m thankful that the SIL bothered to do such things. In our busy and practical society, many of us tend to forgo such activities and would rather rest during this season. After all, we have worked hard throughout the year, so why do this? Gimme a break, you might say. But, it does lift the spirit, in my case, at least. I guess it all boils down to the heart attitude. If you decide that all these are unnecessary, and is a total waste of time, then perhaps you will go to the event with a hardened heart, a downcast spirit and a grim face. And this does affect the company you are with.

The Christmas season should be welcome with wide open arms. It’s a time that we remember that Christ came, to bring hope to the fallen world. It’s a season of giving, not just of material goods but of ourselves. He came so that we might have life, life abundant (John 10:10).

So, peeps, let’s bring on the Christmas cheer… 😉

The little one was involved as well!

The little one was involved as well!

Faith was intrigued by the baubles and stayed entertained by them throughout the session.

IMG_9611

Step-by-step, we’ll make it. The guys setting up the lights.

IMG_9615 IMG_9618

And then, the star!

IMG_9617 IMG_9621

We dressed Faith up in santa’s clothing which a friend sent over to us. How apt! But the little one wasn’t very comfortable in it!

IMG_9612

I sent some cheer by baking an adaptation of the peppermint mocha cupcakes.

IMG_9624

And so, the Christmas spirit is definitely here to stay…for a while, at least. 😉

Thankful Tuesday | The birthday weekend

So, I did have a birthday celebration after all. The awesome hubs decided to pamper me the family with a staycation! Here’s recording some of the things that I’m thankful for in case I forget… again!

Don’t laugh at me. Some of the stuff are really unimportant things but hey, we should be thankful for them!

After the session at Gymnademics (which I will share in detail for the next post), we had a rather authentic Korean lunch. I went for my favourite Bibimbap. It’s love at first taste after I had it in Seoul many years back. This one at Auntie Kim’s Korean Restaurant is authentically good!

IMG_9454

And we checked into Quincy Hotel, a boutique business hotel located in the heart of the shopping belt of Orchard Road. In fact, it is just about 10 minutes’ walk from Paragon shopping mall. I must say I am impressed by the services provided by this hotel. We were led to our room by the guest relations officer who also presented us with a bottle of wine and a smile all the while. The room is clean and big for a boutique hotel. I appreciate the king-sized bed and the rather spacious toilet which is complete with a rain-shower and bathtub. And those selection of invigorating Molton Brown’s bath amenities? Who can resist?

quincy hotel

Our weekend savers deal includes a cupcake baking session and the hubs and I had a go at it. We had fun!

The hotel provides an all-day dining at the restaurant, courtesy of Dean & DeLuca and Modesto’s. However, if you are bored by the selection, you can always head out, like us! So, that evening, we had a glimpse of the Christmas lighting along Orchard Road. Personally, I have not done this for a good number of years! How embarrassing!

We came back to the hotel and had a light dessert. Faith was so tired that she fell asleep in the arms of K. At last, we had a wee bit of couple time. Oh, how I miss those days – chatting without having to be concerned with the child. And then, a nice surprise awaits us – the hotel presented me with a Tiramisu cake for my birthday! So the hubs had told them that the staycation was meant to celebrate my birthday and they actually bothered to do something special. Great job, Quincy!

IMG_9488

The breakfast selection is one of the better ones I have had. It’s buffet, no doubt, but they looked much palatable and…freshly cooked.

IMG_9492

IMG_9503

We had a dip at the infinity pool after breakfast. Since it was a Monday, we had the whole pool to ourselves. Pity that the water was cold else we would have stayed in there for a while more!

This is how Faith entertains herself.

Our staycation came to a close as we checked out at 3pm. Overall, this weekend was a relaxing one and it was made better by the good service rendered by the hotel staff. Highly recommend Quincy Hotel (nope, this is not a sponsored post). By the way, parking is complimentary no matter how many times you go in and out of the hotel. Awesome?

I need more of such staycation!

Gymnademics at the ARC

For a while now, I have thought of enrolling Faith in some gym/ enrichment classes. You see, being a Stay-At-Home-Mom (SAHM), I have the privilege of interacting with Faith all most of the time. I read, play, do grocery shopping and take a walk with her, amongst the many other activities that we engage in. HOWEVER, there are times, oh, many times that I do not know what to do with her. Basically, I have run out of ideas! Fellow SAHMs, do you face the same issue?

IMG_2837

After browsing parenting blogs like those of Candice and  Adeline who share their experiences on Gymnademics, I emailed them about their trial class since I wanted to check out the environment for myself and see how Faith reacts to the class. But the sleep-deprived mom soon forgot about it until I received an email from the centre, inviting me to visit the outlet at Alexandra Retail Centre (ARC). It’s a timely reminder, so I thought, and made an appointment to go down.

IMG_2822

We were warmly greeted by the staff and Joseph, the GM, walked through the programme with the hubs and me. The studios were visually colourful and child-friendly. Faith warmed up to Joseph minutes into the sharing and then busied herself with the musical instruments. She was really engaged with them as the hubs guided her to explore the instruments. No need Mama already!

IMG_2829 IMG_2834

After the brief introduction of the gym and what they do, I was all ready to enrol Faith in the class when I was asked if I would be interested to be their ambassador for a term. Why, yes, of course! This will be an awesome opportunity to learn more about Gymnademics, her vision and beliefs.

I am all eager for Faith to start and am thankful that the centre allows BOTH parents to be with the child during each lesson. So, that means all of us can learn together. I am also informed that the parents would be given some materials after each session so that they can reinforce what was learnt during the lesson at home. Let’s just see if this is true. 😉

IMG_2826

Faith is going to start the lesson in about two weeks’ time and she will be attending the lesson at the ARC’s outlet. Apart from the fact that it is quite a distance from our home, I guess the other factors are still good and enticing enough for us to attend the class there. They include:

1) It is within a sheltered walking distance from Labrador Park MRT (circle line)IMG_2824
2) There are many F&B outlets at ARC (so we will also be exploring the makan places here!)
3) NTUC (can do grocery shopping!)
4) Parking is free on weekends (yay for those who drive!)
5) We can explore the area like the Hort Park, Henderson Waves, Labrador Park, etc after the session ( means family outing!)

I will be sharing Faith’s progress at Gymnademics for sure. Do stay tune as there will be some give-aways in future posts.

To celebrate the new outlet at ARC, Gymnademics is offering some opening specials when you sign up for a class package by 30 Nov 13:

Weekend trip to Legoland

Our family travelled up to Legoland over the weekend with our cell group from church. As we wanted to travel up together as a convoy, we departed at 4pm and reached our hotel, Hotel Granada, JB, at around 7pm via the second link. We thought the hotel is well-located, with a fast-food restaurant just outside the building and Aeon JUSCO Shopping Arcade within walking distance.

IMG_2714

IMG_9022After resting for a while, we proceeded to our dinner place which was recommended by one of our cell members. We ordered quite a number of dishes and in the end, each adult only pays about S$10! Wow!

IMG_9031

The following day, before proceeding to Legoland, we hopped over to the mall to satisfy our shopping desire. We only had about 2 1/2 hours to do so and to have our lunch as well. Since it is impossible to have A & W back home, we went for this fast-food joint naturally. However, I must say, the standard has dropped and the portion, shrunk.

IMG_2734

It was drizzling when we reached the theme park. Thankfully, we brought umbrellas. However, even if you didn’t bring, you can loan from them!

[Review] Mary Kay’s TimeWise Plus+ Regena-Firm skin care range

A few weeks ago, this bundle of goodies arrived at the doorstep.

20130905-083037.jpg

Of course, it didn’t fall from the sky. Florinda has kindly asked a group of mothers to try this range out and as I looked at my face in the mirror, I thought, “Why not?”

You see, I wasn’t that concerned about looking after my skin in my younger days. I was thinking since I had combination-to-oily skin type, I didn’t really need to apply moisturiser. On top of that, I was in the sun a lot since I enjoyed the outdoors. However, the need to apply sunblock didn’t really occur to me as I do love the ‘tanned’ look.20131019-090132.jpg

I guess I reap what I sow. My skin is all right, not fantastic of course. It’s a bit dull and has big pores. But what really makes me sad is the area around my eyes. I have already incurred crow’s feet in my late 20s and now because of a lack of sleep, the dark circles got worse. This is no laughing matter. I still remember when I was working (that was a few years back), colleagues would ask me if I had enough sleep because I looked perpetually tired. The eyes must have done it again. So, yes, I am ultra-concerned about this particular area.

This Mary Kay bundle includes Day and Night Treatment, Intensive Serum, Correcting Eye Cream and True Dimension Lipstick. As with all skincare products, consistency is key and for the purpose of this review and to inculcate a good habit, I decided that I should be disciplined and follow a religious skincare regime.

I actually wanted to shout out to the world that this set of products work by the second week. It is actually quite miraculous, I think. I’ll let the pictures below show you the results. These are unfiltered and I have not edited them.

20131019-062806.jpg 20131019-062814.jpg 20131019-062824.jpg

Before the use of the products, my lines around the eyes are rather deep. This is especially so when I smile or laugh. You can also see big pores on my cheeks and the skin is a bit dull and lacks firmness, you think?

By the first week of usage, the lines are minimised and the eye areas look more lifted. I also observe that the skin is firmer and more supple. The pictures speak volume. I am stoked. I believe I will be using this range and their other products from now on. It’s more economical than the ones I’m currently using and can produce more miracles and positive results! ;p

20131019-063124.jpg

Oh yes, another thing that I appreciate is their product design. You only need to squeeze out the amount that you need for the day and night treatment and this helps to preserve the remaining cream (no contamination!) and reduce wastage. Love the design of the packaging too. Looks classic and elegant!

20131019-062910.jpg 20131019-062833.jpg

For reference’s sake, this is how you should apply the cream so that your skin can be lifted and restore youthful skin!

Cake Topper/ Doll Making Workshop

IMG_2562Hello! How adorable are these wooden dolls which act as cake toppers too!

I first caught sight of these dolls such as this through etsy as I was looking for cake toppers a few months ago. They can be rather expensive and I was looking to doing them on my own. However, due to a lack of time, I couldn’t source for the materials and gave up the idea until Jasmine ran a giveaway on her FB page. Participated but didn’t win. However, that did not deter me from joining the workshop. Da man knew that I love to attend such workshops and gave his blessing while my in-laws and he took over to care of baby Faith. It’s ME time! Woohoo!

So, I made my way down to A for Arbite which is the hosting site for the event. I was the first to arrive for the workshop (eager!) and had a quick bite before the class commenced.

IMG_7813

Liza and her family came shortly and what a joy to have great company!

IMG_7831

The workshop was conducted by Wei Mum of Little Craft Loft and I was so amazed by the ‘barang barang’ that that were needed to do up these dolls. When I say ‘amazed’, I mean I’m captivated because all the stuff are what you will use when you do craftwork = KAWAII! They include cloth, stickers, ribbons, etc.

IMG_7844 IMG_7846

So, the steps (in summary) involved in making these dolls:

First, you outline the facial features.

Then, you paint it and glaze it.

Wei Mun is a very patient instructor and because of that, I enjoyed the session a lot. I’ve got great company – Liza and her hubby, Winston, and little Xander! My lunch was paid for by this generous and funny family too. How blessed I am!

Review | Outpost 903 Gastrobar

It’s been a while.

When was the last time I went out with girlfriends to chill?

Last Sunday, I had the opportunity to do so with my mummy friends and had an awesome brunch at Outpost 903.

It wasn’t difficult to get there. Located along Bukit Timah Road, you can’t miss the gastrobar with its black and white facade and a distinctive water tank which seems to act as a post to guide you to the eatery. Mabel and I walked in and were greeted by the affable co-owner, Youyi, and our friends.

IMG_7498

Once inside, I was intrigued by the eclectic selection of furniture that was mostly sourced from Vietnam and a huge signage that is capable of making you feel that you are in a factory-bar. Oh, I forgot to mention – this single-storey shophouse was built around 1902. Isn’t this a good reason to visit this gastrobar already?

IMG_7499

outpost

So, I digress. The mummies were treated to an all-day brunch, just what we need for some catch-up session.

IMG_2494

First up is the Benedict Duo ($14) and the name speaks for itself. You have poached eggs served two styles, either on bacon or ham and these on mini ciabatta bread, with salad served on the side. Such a combination won’t go wrong, I feel.

IMG_2484

This is the Mac and Cheese Bacon Sandwich ($16) which is a little heavy for me. It’s not hard to imagine. There is a sizable slice of mac and cheese and this, topped with streaky bacon and spicy marinated tomato slices on toasted brioche. Oh, brioche, how I love this bread which is rich with eggs and butter. On the side are fries and salad. This is good for people who love big portion!

IMG_2488

You have to consume the Crabmeat Sandwich ($20) with the tomato soup dip to enjoy the full flavour that it can bring forth. Yours truly tasted the sandwich on its own and thus found it a tad dry.

IMG_2486 IMG_2492

How do you like this 903 Burger ($16). I was won over by the sunny side up and the generous portion of the home-made beef patty, complete with lettuce, tomato, sweet onion, gherkins. Sandwiched between toasted sesame buns, this dish is served with crispy fries like the rest above. And, you can choose to have truffle fries (!!!) for a nominal top up. I will definitely do that for my next visit!

IMG_2478

My favourite has to be the Cheesy Steak Sandwich ($20) which comprises some of my favourite stuff – thin sliced ribeye and pork bratwurst combination with home-made tomato topped with mozerella and sharp chedder cheese and all these sandwiched between wonderful brioche. Lovely combination! This is the only one which compelled me to go for a second helping. Yummy!

As you can see from the above, the selection is aplenty (and there are still others on the menu) and there is bound to be one which will satisfy everyone.

For desserts, we were served their Chocolate Lava ($14) and Mango Float ($12). Both are good and I appreciate that the chocolate is not overly sweet (it’s done just nicely). However, I particularly love the Mango Float with its layers of graham biscuits and mango cream. Perhaps, it was a warm day and I just love the chill that ran down my throat. Awesome!

This is Cherie, enjoying her Chocolate Lava.

So the mummies did have fun catching up with one another and having some ME time, not to mention delicious food in a cozy environment. Oh yes, we went crazy learning how to take a good selfie shot.

My sis and her family went back after more than a week of visit. *sobs* I’ll sure miss them! But thankfully, it won’t be long before we meet again! Yay!

IMG_7714

Buh-bye! See you in December, my adorable little frequent flyers!

IMG_7726

Since da man is on leave today, we took the opportunity to roam T3 and had our brunch. I love local food like these anytime!

IMG_7725

Da man and I went for a slow, slow jog at East Coast Park, my favourite playground while Dad looked after her. At long last, a jog! Make it more often, please!

20130927-210718.jpg

Faith got her first taste of egg today. I wanted to see if she reacts well to it before her next visit to the PD. Hopefully, she is ok with it!

20130927-210725.jpg

That’s it. TGIF! It is passing all too soon!

The Swiss Bäcker

If you stay in the eastern part of Singapore and are looking for a decent breakfast place, consider this eatery at Frankel Ave – The Swiss Backer.

20130920-071513.jpg

Da man and I stumbled upon this cafe while I was pregnant and craving for a good morning meal. We were are early risers (normally around 5am) and definitely would appreciate cafes that operate early in the day. This, opens at 7.30am. Woohoo!

This time round, when we visited The Swiss Backer, we were pleasantly surprised that they have just undergone renovation and I must say, this is an awesome move. The whole place looks brighter with the full glass windows and the service, still as good. There is a corner with kids’ stuff which we used to entertain Faith and I do sense a family-friendly environment.

A raised platform space to accommodate big crowd.

Desserts

There is now more selection in terms of food though I still prefer their aromatic bread to their desserts.

20130920-071635.jpg

So these are what we have ordered, not much different from what we used to order. We are just hmm…creatures of habits I guess. ;p

20130920-071619.jpg

Faith was getting quite restless after having her fill and her ‘music-making’ session using sachets of sugar. So da man took a book from the children’s corner and read to her. That lasted for about 2 minutes only. ;p

20130920-071653.jpg

We did have a good breakfast and I thought this place is worth recommending!
