[Giveaway] Minus Calories NIR SPEEDS workout

Psst…Did you know that Active Hive has launched its second near infrared NIR elliptical fitness workout – Minus Calories NIR SPEEDS workout?

I am privileged to be among the first few to try out this machine and over the past two months, I have used it to help me train for the runs which I have signed up such as the recent Salomon x-trail run. The weather these days have been erratic but I know I could depend on the cross trainer to help me in my fitness and exercise performance.

Just a little information about the Minus Calories NIR SPEEDS workout. This workout uses a cross trainer that is combined with near infrared NIR technology and Ionised Air to enhance our sports performance, fitness levels, and fats and cellulite burning up to four times faster than traditional aerobic workouts. Depending on our fitness level and needs, training programmes of varying intensities are recommended to optimise our exercise performance.

Another important thing that I need to mention is that the near infrared NIR penetrates deep into the skin tissue which helps to quickly warm up the muscles, target fatty tissues and activate the sweat glands. This improves oxygenation and hydration of skin tissues, enhances blood circulation and encourages the release of toxins. The enhanced perspiration ensures maximum effect of fat burning at optimum effort to attain our fitness goals. Near infrared NIR also specially targets fats molecules in areas with cellulite, such as the thighs and buttocks.

If you think this is too much information, I don’t blame you. This workout is truly that and I can tell you a million things about it but the best way to understand how it works is to try it yourself. Another important thing to bear in mind is to be consistent.

Since weaning Dan off breastfeeding, I find that it is so easy to put on weight. I didn’t consume more than the usual portion but the fats find its way around my thigh area. I really ought to be consistent in my workout! I find that it is ideal if I could do the workout twice a week (based on experience). The holiday season is coming and there will be a lot of celebrations and eating (no doubt) coming up. Time to hit the machine!

If you are still doubtful of the workout, I’m pleased to inform you that Active Hive has kindly sponsored 5 readers to try out TWO sessions of the Minus Calories NIR SPEEDS workout. After the trial, you can then decide for yourself if this works for you.

All you need to do is to comment in this post or on my FB page post that “I would like to go for a trial!” and leave your email address so that we can contact you. I will then randomly pick 5 winners! This giveaway ends on 9 November 2016 and I will announce the winners on 10 November okay?

Alternative Breakfast Ideas

This post came about because I just returned from an event at Active Hive and was treated to a wonderful sight of Chia Seed Pudding.

img_1730

I know each jar of these Chia Seed pudding contains a lot of goodness in them and I was thinking, “Perhaps I should consider having them as my breakfast? Or make overnight oats so that the hubs could bring it to his office instead of always having sandwich as his meal?”

img_1604

You see, I’m a bit concerned for him because his metabolic age was 57 at a recent body composition analysis at Active Hive and his Visceral Fat Percentage is 14 which is alarming. Thankfully, he was willing to start working out together with his wife using the Minus Calories workout. #sorrynotsponsored. And I thought it was a good start as we take baby steps to gain back our stamina and health.

img_1713

To take a step further, perhaps we could have alternatives to our breakfast?

There are really a lot of resources available on the internet with regard to overnight oats so I’m going to be lazy and just post the pictures and links to the ones that I would be trying out because they are so easy to prepare!

Because blueberries are on offer now, so this makes it to the list as well.

I think I shall do the grocery tomorrow and start my overnight oats adventure! School reopens tomorrow. All the best!

Spongebob Run Singapore

Following the previous run, I’m looking forward to yet another one. This time round, I hope to be participating with da man and the kids.

Enter Nickelodeon’s first ever SpongeBob Run in Asia which will flag off in Singapore on 6 August 2016 at Siloso Beach Walk, Sentosa. Join SpongeBob SquarePants in search of his missing best friend Patrick Star via this fun run which will see participants cover a five kilometre route showcasing iconic landmarks from the underwater city of Bikini Bottom, including the Krusty Krab, and the houses that SpongeBob, Patrick and Squidward Tentacles live in.

Spongebob-Run

I thought this fun run could encourage families to get out and run together, especially in the lead-up to National Day, no?

The race course is lined with many trigger-happy opportunities for participants to snap a #wefie with SpongeBob and his friends in life-size cutout boards, such as Sandy Cheeks in her pressurized suit and SpongeBob’s pet sea snail Gary. Fun, isn’t it?

There are two categories of race entitlement packs:

:: For BASIC (S$49.50 per pax), participants will receive an official event t-shirt, an event medal and a runner’s license.

:: For NORMAL (S$59.50 per pax), in addition to receiving an official event t-shirt, an event medal and a runner’s license, participants will go home with an exclusive SpongeBob Run Singapore plush and drawstring bag.

On that day, a carnival filled with nautical-themed activities, food and beverages, awaits SpongeBob fans and their families. At the end of the race, fans can enjoy a screening of three episodes of SpongeBob SquarePants with their loved ones. The first 30 participants who finish the race will get the opportunity to meet SpongeBob and Patrick.

Sounds interesting? If you are ready for an evening of fun for your family, do register for the race at the SpongeBob Run Singapore 2016 website.

Oh, wait a minute! Before you do that, you could use this promo code SBXLYNN to get $5 off for any of the 2 categories. But do hurry as this promotion is valid only till 4 August 2016.

We will be taking part as a family and I need to start training the girl already! Two more months to go! For your information, only strollers are allowed in the event and free admission is granted for children below 0.9m in height provided they are accompanied by an adult taking part in the race (Terms and Conditions applies). However, they would not receive any race entitlements.

[Motivational Monday] First run of the year

Last Wednesday, I attempted my first race of the year. It was a 5km race and while many of you may think that it’s just a small thing, I treat it as a milestone.

I ran rather regularly before the kids came along. Since having children, running has become a low priority. I mean, we only have 24 hours per day but it seems like there’re a million and one things to attempt. Something has to give.

But I’m glad to be back. I try to squeeze in at least one 4km run and 2 sessions of Minus Calories 30 min workout per week.

My secondary school friend had asked me if I wanted to run this 5km race with her. Since I’m all ready to have a buddy to push me towards my goal, I agreed. We did our own ‘training’ and met up to run!

So these two mothers did our best to complete the race.

PCCW2016_Route

I love this race route. It was very scenic and since this was not a major race and was held on a weekday, there were not a lot of runners. The result was a smooth and pleasant race.

I did my best for the run because I wanted to know how my stamina was after all those workout.

I took 32 min 24s to complete 5km. Way to go, considering the fact that I didn’t train much in terms of running! I’ll aim for a sub 30 timing for the next few runs!

Till the next race!

[Motivational Mondays] Back to fitness the Active Hive way

“Why don’t you be our brand ambassador?”

Huh? Me?

I am your regular mom, the stay-at-home type. I also blog (and am sometimes called a mom blogger), more on my kids and my other passions in life such as cooking and baking. Sometimes I do reviews of products that I want to try and which I believe in. Last year, Agnes from Active Hive asked me if I wanted to try their Minus Calories 30min workout. It was a month after I had delivered the boy and I had wanted to gain back my stamina so it was a definite yes for me.

In those five sessions, my muscle mass has increased and my metabolic age improved (you can read about my review here). I have had such a good experience with the workout that I continued with it at my own expense. Besides helping me in terms of my fitness, I also appreciate that such a form of ME time is spent wisely. Health is important to me and ME time maintains my sanity.

I am thankful and proud to be one of the few ambassadors for Active Hive. To me, being the brand’s spokesperson means advocating for the right approach to health and a balanced lifestyle. There is no shortcuts to being fit and healthy. We must all put in the right effort, balance, concentration, exercise, nutrition and rest and ultimately be responsible for our own health.

6 months post-partum and I was back to my pre-pregnancy weight, thanks to breastfeeding and all the various forms of workout (household chores included) that I attempt. My personal goal through Minus Calories 30min workout is to improve my stamina, increase my muscle mass and continue to have an improvement for my metablic age which currently stands at 28. I am not looking to lose weight or to achieve a body type that I could not attain. Being healthy and fit is.

I am slowly returning to running, a sports that I used to do very regularly before the kids came along. I want to do so with the family because I desire my children to develop a love for sports themselves and to lead a healthy lifestyle. To achieve that, we as parents have to be role models.

I must tell you it’s not easy. There are times when I prefer to rest at home as opposed to working out. I find having like-minded friends to exercise with you helps a lot. So, if you want to motivate me or need some encouragement to get yourself started and moving, I’m here!

Besides working out, having the right nutrition is equally important. If you have not already known, Active Hive promotes healthy eating through the sale of their superfoods like quinoa, Chia seeds, cold pressed cacao and Maca powder. I was a convert to these superfoods a few years back and am slowly introducing them to my children and husband.

I am proud to be representing Active Hive because I know the founders are passionate and genuinely care for the well being of their customers. I know that because I was once their customer and am pleased to note that they have been consistent in what they are doing. If you want to find out more about Minus Calories 30min workout or any other products/ services that Active Hive is providing, feel free to drop me an email and I would be more than happy to communicate with you.

I would be updating my ‘Back to Fitness’ journey on this space. Do look out for Motivational Monday’s post on them. Alternatively you can follow me on Instagram! Meanwhile, eat well, exercise right and stay healthy! 😀

[Motivational Monday]Minus Calories: The 30-minute workout + Giveaway

It has always been my goal to gain back my stamina and fitness level after my pregnancy. From my previous experience, I know that life after a baby can be busy and my own health could be ignored if I don’t intentionally set aside time to exercise. Now with two children, it’s even worse.

I know that it’s probably wise to start slow because my body is still recovering from the trauma of pregnancy and childbirth and I would need some time for it to be ready for a more vigorous workout. So, after my confinement period, I did stretching and toning exercises at home and then I was invited to try out Minus Calories at Active Hive.

Minus Calories? What’s that? I had that exact question when I heard of that name.

It is basically a 30-minute workout that specifically targets fat burning, detox and helps to tone and firm the body. The workout incorporates innovative technology to intensify one’s rate of fat burning and improve one’s fitness. It optimises calories reduction and could burn calories more than 5 times faster than the normal workouts – at least 500 calories in that 30 minutes!

As a person who has used the gym before and exercised regularly, I know it is highly difficult to burn that amount of calories in 30 minutes. With a curious and skeptical mind, I went to check it out.

20151124_120609

On my first visit, I was given a body composition analysis before an anti-cellulite and body sculpt cream was applied on my arms, tummy area, thighs and calves. Thereafter, I spent the next 30 minutes on the elliptical machine with the presence of Infrared and Ionised Air technology while watching some (cooking) videos on Youtube. On that very first session, I burnt 586 calories.

img1447139267748

I found myself looking forward to the next few sessions as I was told that they could programme the workout such that I could burn more than 1000 calories since my stamina wasn’t that bad. It seemed like a challenge that I like! Moreover, I absolutely love the juice that was freshly squeezed and which I drank with much pleasure. It’s so refreshing!

20151124_130124

The subsequent sessions saw me burning more calories and by the end of the 5th session, I burnt 1506 calories in 45 minutes. The infrared technology enabled  me to burn that much because it heats the skin to make it perspire more and the calorie burning process is sped up. There is also a whole range of benefits that the infrared technology gives such as stimulating collagen production, reducing body aches or pain and improving our immune system. Each time after the workout, I felt rejuvenated rather than exhausted. Besides the infrared technology, the ionized air also supplies purified oxygen to rejuvenate the skin cells and improve the respiratory system. Although I didn’t feel tired or experience aches after the workout, you can be sure that I slept very well that evening.

3rd session: Love the glow and obviously the juice!

Here’s what I appreciate about the Minus Calorie at Active Hive:

  1. Each session is by appointment only and that means you have the privacy to work on those muscles. You wouldn’t need to be bothered by the stares of anyone because there’s only you in the room.
  2. I could multi-task in the sense that I could watch videos on the screen while working out. It’s definitely a luxury for me because I don’t have time to watch TV at home. No kidding!
  3. Minus Calories uses the elliptical machine which is kind to my knees.
  4. I don’t feel the soreness on my legs even though I have burnt so much calories. On the contrary, I feel good and refreshed after each session and all ready to assume my responsibilities when I get back home.
  5. It’s a time-saver as I don’t have to spend too long on the exercise and yet yield maximum results. This is an important point (time-wise) as I need to get back home to feed the baby or pump (I’m currently breastfeeding).
  6. I share the same beliefs as Active Hive in that they advocate right nutrition through making better choices of quality food along with juicing.

Some of the health food (superfoods) available at Active Hive

To me, the time to work out on Minus Calories is really a great ME time. I got to unwind and recharge after each session. There is no calling of “Mama”, “Mama”, just sounds from the videos that you are watching.

In that two and a half weeks, I lost an inch both at the waist and hip but more importantly, my muscle mass has increased which is what I wanted.
